Improper hydration can lead to illness, fatigue, dry skin, migraines, increased heart rates, and so on. With the warmer weather and outdoor adventures that spring brings, it’s important to remember to stay hydrated. However, sometimes water is just not what we are craving.
Sugary sodas, teas, juices and coffees can actually make you more dehydrated. They may taste great, but they are not the best option for your health and wellbeing. Water is the best way to stay hydrated. It’s calorie-free and caffeine-free.
Here are a few of our favorite spring recipes to give you a little extra flavor to your water.
Watermelon & Basil Water
This is the perfect summer/spring time drink. During this time of year, watermelon is a great fruit to add to salads, feta, salsa, and even to lemonade. According to Epicurious, there are more than 27 great ways to eat watermelon and one of those ways is through infused water. Try adding cubed watermelon and fresh basil to your Glasstic this season. Although watermelon is 92 percent water, it contains compounds that may help prevent cancer, may improve heart health, and lower inflammation. According to Purple Carrot, basil is an anti-inflammatory herb that fights cancer and has natural antibacterial properties. This delicious and refreshing drink will help keep you hydrated and healthy.
Strawberry & Lemon
Strawberry lemonade is a popular drink, especially when the weather gets warmer. Although this drink is absolutely delicious, they are often filled with tons of sugar. We’ve found the healthy solution without the sugar. Squeeze half a lemon into your Glasstic (this may vary depending on preferred taste) and add about ½ a cup of sliced or crushed strawberries. Bonus, add some mint to the water for an extra kick!
According to Wellness Mama, lemon water aids digestion, provides a boost of vitamin C and helps promote a healthy weight and happy skin. And by adding a few strawberries to your Glasstic, this can promote healthy eyesight, lower blood pressure, and skin vitality.
Cucumber
Now, every time I go to a spa, there is cucumber water available for guests, but for good reason. According to Healthline, cucumber water not only keeps you hydrated, but it delivers antioxidants, supports healthy skin, and even boosts bone health. It’s the perfect drink to have whether you’re spending the day at the spa or lounging at the pool.
Peaches & Mint
Mint infused water with peaches is a great (and addicting) way to stay hydrated. Grab a few mint leaves and some frozen slices of peaches and throw them into your Glasstic. By freezing the peaches, you can keep your drink cool in the warm weather. Plus, the mint added to your drink also acts as an appetite suppressant.
