It’s that time of year again. We all love the holidays with all of the celebrations and family affairs, but with these festivities come food and the inevitable weight gain. The average person gains 7 to 10 pounds between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We at Glasstic understand the struggle of maintaining a healthy lifestyle especially during the crazy months of November through January so we’ve created our favorite workout activities to keep you fit after the holidays.
1. The plank: The plank is the classic exercise perfect for working out. It is very simple, but will challenge the entire body with one move. There are a variety of plank exercises that will test your body including the standard plank, elbow plank, side plank, and more. Our favorite it the elbow plank. To perform this, lay stomach down and raise your knees onto your toes while resting mainly on your elbows. Lift yourself up and keep your back flat using your abs and forearms as support.
2. Toe Touches: This simple exercise is perfect for beginners who are trying to get in shape. Toe touches are an effective activity that exercises the abs. You will definitely feel the burn with this workout. To do toe touches, lie flat on the ground with your arms by your side. Place your feet together and raise them in air so they are perpendicular to the floor. Then, extend your arms to try and touch your toes. Repeat.
3. Bicycle: The bicycle is another great exercise to keep you fit. It’s easy to do and requires no equipment. It’s perfect for building core strength by working out your upper abs and it also helps tone your thighs. To do this exercise, lie flat on the ground with your lower back pressed to the floor. With your hands placed behind your head, lift your knees to a 45 degree angle and then bring your right knee towards your chest and lift your opposite shoulder blade off the ground. Go through a bicycle motion, alternating knees and shoulder blades.
4. Donkey Kicks: Lastly, donkey kicks. This is an exercise that targets your glutes. It’s a simple exercise that can be done practically anywhere. The donkey kick consists of going on your hands and knees with your abs drawn in toward your spine. Kick one leg up behind you until it is level with your body while keeping your knee bent. Bring it down and repeat alternating.
