Pineapples are an amazing fruit. The Pineapple we know and love is actually made of many individual berries that fuse together around a central core with each pineapple scale being an individual berry. While it takes almost 3 years for a single pineapple to reach maturation, it is well worth the wait.
Pineapples contain high amounts of vitamin C and manganese and are also a good way to get important dietary fiber and bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme shown to be an effective anti-inflammatory, muscle relaxant, and digestive aid. Pineapples also contain high amounts of thiamin, a B vitamin that helps with energy production.
For a tropical twist to your water, try adding some cubed pineapple and orange slices:
Ingredients:
1 quart water
1 cup pineapple, cubed
1 orange, sliced
Chill in the refrigerator for 4-8 hours and up to 24 hours for maximum flavor
