The holidays are a joyful time with family and friends, but also a time where our healthy habits are neglected. Although most of us tend to eat way too much and forget to exercise, we also forget to drink enough water. Often, we drink less or we drink more unhealthy beverages like alcohol and sugary drinks.
There are so many reasons for us to remain hydrated with water over the holiday season. According to the Joint, it helps with calorie consumption, fights exhaustion (something we all need over the holidays!) and controls hunger. It also helps make sure your body is functioning properly!
To help you stay hydrated this holiday season, we’ve provided a few of our favorite tips and reminders.
Drink Before You Eat
With so many sugary treats and amazing food being made, overeating is very possible this holiday season. To help you manage your eating habits and consume more water, try drinking before you eat. According to Women’s Health, often, when you’re hungry, you’re actually thirsty. Dehydration makes it easier to overindulge that sweet tooth!
Pay Attention to Your Body
Your body will help provide signs that you are dehydrated. Listen to it! There are so many signs of dehydration that include dry skin, headaches, fatigue (although Turkey can be the culprit of this one!), muscle cramps, mood changes, and more. No matter the season or weather, make sure you’re still giving your body enough water to function properly.
Always Bring Your Water Bottle
Remember to always have a water bottle by your side. Many of us don’t drink water because it’s not convenient at the time. We don’t want to get up, we have to pay for it, it’s not nearby, etc. There are so many excuses that can be avoided if your Glasstic was in hand! Having a water bottle nearby is also a friendly reminder throughout the day to drink more as out of sight, out of mind!
Choose Water First
Whether you’re dining out or enjoying a home cooked meal, drinking alcohol is a popular habit over the holidays. To help you stay hydrated and to avoid feeling a little sluggish the next morning, try drinking water between alcoholic beverages. According to Mayo Clinic this will help you keep hydrated and slow down your drinking to keep you more comfortable in a social setting.
Remember to stay hydrated this holiday season so you can enjoy the winter break and spend more time with family and friends. Grab your Glasstic and drink up. Happy holidays!
