It’s travel season! As we all prep for our spring and summer travels, it’s important to remember to stay healthy. Although traveling and vacations can be good for your health, they can also cause damage.
On vacations, unhealthy habits tend to take over like overeating, consuming junk food, lack of activity, heavy drinking and lack of nutrients. These habits can often do more harm than good. Some of the adverse effects of these choices include dehydration, weight gain, mood change, lack of energy, stomach issues, and more.
To help you stay healthy while traveling, we’ve compiled a few of our favorite tips and tricks.
Bring Your Glasstic

Staying hydrated is so important when traveling. It has many benefits. For example, drinking water before, during and after your flight is said to counteract the dehydrating effects of dry cabin air. Mayo Clinic says that dehydration can actually make jet lag symptoms worse.
Whether you are going to a hot or cold destination, it’s also important to stay hydrated while you’re enjoying your vacation. Dehydration can cause headaches, mood changes and dizziness. It can also cause more severe side effects, which can ruin your entire trip, like heat-related injuries, seizures and low blood volume.
To help you stay hydrated on your trip, remember to keep your water bottle on hand. We recommend going reusable, but make sure the water is safe to drink wherever you may be traveling! So, what’s the best water bottle? Glasstic water bottles are glass, leakproof and shatterproof, making them the perfect travel companion. Make sure to keep your Glasstic on hand!
Pack Snacks or Meals

Eating out for every meal is not only unhealthy, but also expensive! It can make you feel bloated and tired. It can also cause stomach issues and headaches. We recommend stopping at a local grocery store to pick up healthy snacks like fruits and vegetables. If you have a fridge at your hotel or rental, it may be worth preparing a few meals as well!
Going with a group? Have each family prepare a meal on the trip. It will save money and everyone gets to enjoy a home-cooked meal with friends.
Find Activities to Promote Exercise
There are so many activities to do when you travel! Some of us (or many of us) typically like to sit at the resort and get our tan on. However, that is not the only option! We recommend finding time to relax and adventure. This will make sure you are staying active and healthy.
Important to note that not all activities require eating, drinking or hiking. Although these are popular things to do in many places, there are tons of other things to do. We recommend looking at the local calendar listings, activity boards and even social media for things to do and upcoming events.
Set Your Alarm
Time zone changes are difficult, especially when it interferes with sleep. Although it’s difficult, we recommend waking up early when you’re on vacation. The experience is not only healthier, but it allows you to see great sites with fewer tourists and get more out of your day. To help you get a full night of rest and wake up early, Sleep Advisor suggests going to bed earlier, setting an alarm, eating less before bedtime, and setting a schedule.
Are you ready for your travels? We hope you enjoy your well-deserved vacation. Remember to keep your Glasstic nearby and drink up!
