My first experience with Teabook was when its founder, Jeffrey McIntosh, contacted Glasstic to inquire about creating a version of our unique patented glass water bottle to work with Teabook. As we moved forward in our discussions I decided to test the Teabook subscription service to compare with the types of teas I had drank while traveling in China. The biggest difference between tea in the West and in Asia, from the point of view of a casual observer, is that in Asia the tea is served loose leaf vs in the US where tea is mostly delivered in the form of a tea bag. I prefer the more ‘natural’ loose leaf version like I had drank in China and so I was excited to see that Teabook was making this experience available here in the US.
I received some samples from Teabook to assess the quality of the tea, the packaging and instructions along with the Tea Tumbler that comes with the initial Teabook subscription. I have to say that Teabook has done a wonderful job creating a simple to use almost fun product that makes experiencing tea the way they do in Asia simple.
The initial subscription package includes a glass double walled tea tumbler which is very stylish and does the job but given I founded Glasstic I have my opinions about the tumbler and prefer Glasstic to it overall. It represents a functional alternative to Glasstic but in the long run I chose to use Glasstic with a tea filter over the included glass tea tumbler for the same reasons I started Glasstic, safety, ease of use, no leaking, confidently take anywhere and I feel the outer plastic shell does a better job of containing the heat and not becoming too hot to the touch like pure glass can.
In terms of the teas I feel the green tea is very good for the price. The ‘special’ tea packet that is included in the boxes we have for the giveaways is simply the BEST loose leaf tea I have ever tried. It is amazing and I wish I could have a box of that every month but I suspect the cost would be prohibitive.
Overall I feel the convenience of having quality tea cut leaf tea that is already measured and ready for use in addition to being delivered monthly via subscription is worth the price if you enjoy tea or are looking to get into loose leaf tea.
We are giving away two Teabook loose leaf tea starter kits this month so the lucky winners can try it out. We will also being including packs of Teabook Green and Oolong Teas with Glasstic Bottles purchased with Tea Filters starting in February to help others on their journey into choosing loose leaf teas and Glasstic ‘Tea Tumblers’.
